... of “intolerable pain”? Not physical pain, but soul pain, something it’s so deeply rooted in your guts that one cannot bear with it and keep living. Like an “irreconcilable difference” with ourselves.
Two days ago, a boy whose father I used to know took his own life in his 18th birthday. A quiet young man with a taste for books and heavy metal, who had friends (and a girlfriend), and whose grades kept him in the High School Honor Board. What kind of ruthless, tantalizing pain leads somebody so young and talented to such an extreme act?
May his spirit reach the freedom his flesh and blood could not.
